This is a robust and athletic breed. It barks loudly when it sees its prey. Stone age fossils confirm its antiquity while hunting as a gun dog, it does not chase but follows its prey like a hound. It has been used as a retriever and guard dog. The Norwegian Elkhound is the national dog of Norway. It weighs 20-23 kgs and is about 50 cms tall.
